Problems and Prospects of the Implementation of Draft Law № 9432 «On The Use of the English Language in Ukraine»

Abstract

Ukraine’s chosen pro-European direction of development for the country entails modernizing all sectors, including the communicative sphere. Educational institutions that actively adhere to present-day demands by implementing innovative approaches and incorporating the latest scientific achievements play a pivotal role in facilitating significant transformations and advancing Ukraine on the international stage.
However, to represent the country adequately in the global arena, it is essential to possess an international means of communication – the language of international discourse. The ability to speak a foreign language provides the opportunity to collaborate with foreign partners and understand the nuances of other cultures, enabling the improvement of skills in problem-solving, task completion, and decision-making.
Knowledge of a foreign language broadens horizons and opens new perspectives for selfimprovement. A person who is proficient in foreign languages is a well-rounded individual, with better abilities to learn new things, free and confident in communicating with others. Such person knows no boundaries and is unstoppable in achieving the goals. All the doors of the world are open to such people because they have the key – proficiency in the language of international communication.
World processes are happening so rapidly that it’s challenging to predict which knowledge will be needed tomorrow. In our opinion, language proficiency is a key factor in achieving goals. Mastering the language of international communication opens the path to global success.
The article examines the process of formation and development of the English language institute in Ukraine from its inception to the present day. It analyzes the problems and prospects of implementing new legislative changes in the language sphere, such as draft of the English language Bill № 9432 «The article also describes legislative initiatives in this area».
